Company Overview

Matarin was founded in late June 2010 by Stuart Kaye, Nili Gilbert and Valerie Malter. Marta Cotton joined (October 2011) as Principal, Director of Client Development, Ralph Coutant joined (November 2011) as Principal, Portfolio Manager. Ralph, Stuart and Nili worked together as an investment team previously for many years while at Invesco prior to starting Matarin. Matarin is 100% employee owned.

The Firm is a SEC registered investment advisor and a WBENC certified women-owned business. Matarin has four strategies currently funded by institutional investors, Matarin North America Small Cap, a long only small cap core strategy, Matarin Large Cap Core, a long only large cap core strategy, Matarin MicroCap, a long only micro cap strategy, and Matarin Market Neutral Funds, a market neutral long/short hedge fund managed in two classes.

Fund Strategy

Matarin Market Neutral is offered in two classes, Class A and Class B. Class A, Matarin Market Neutral Cash (MNC) seeks to outperform cash while minimizing stock market risk by investing both long and short in equities traded in the United States. Its objective is to achieve annualized returns in excess of cash of 5-7% gross of fees with a volatility of 6-10%.

Class B, Matarin Market Neutral Betaequity (MNBe) seeks to outperform cash by investing long and short in equities in exactly the same manner as MNC, and long in global stock market futures to tactically manage stock market exposure. Its objective is to achieve annualized excess returns of 7-11% gross of fees with a volatility of 8 to14%.
